Use Your 2026 Dental Benefits Before They Reset: A Fremont Guide
Most dental insurance plans run on the calendar year, so any benefits you don't use by December 31, 2026 are gone. If you still have a cleaning, filling or crown on your list, booking before year-end can save you hundreds of dollars.
At Shine Dental, our Fremont dentist office checks your benefits before your visit, so you know what's covered and what's left for the year.
What resets on January 1
- Your annual maximum. This is the most your plan pays in a year, often $1,000 to $2,000 on PPO plans. Unused dollars usually don't roll over.
- Your deductible. If you've already met it this year, treatment done before December 31 costs less than the same treatment in January.
- Your two cleanings. Most plans cover two exams and cleanings a year. If you've had only one, the second is usually fully covered.
- FSA dollars. Many flexible spending accounts are use-it-or-lose-it. Check your plan's deadline and carryover rules.
Treatments worth scheduling now
- Your second cleaning and exam of the year
- Fillings for cavities found at an earlier visit
- Crowns or root canals you've been putting off
- Starting larger treatment, such as dental implants or Invisalign
Split big treatment across two plan years
If you need several crowns or an implant, starting in December and finishing in January lets you use two years of your annual maximum instead of one. We'll map out the timing with you before treatment starts.
